Dye, Scott Named To Bronko Nagurski Watch List

DALLAS – For the second consecutive year, Oregon senior linebacker Troy Dye and junior defensive tackle Jordon Scott have both been named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List announced by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) on Tuesday.

The Bronko Nagurski Trophy is given to the top defensive player in college football. Oregon is one of 21 programs with multiple players on the list.

It’s been a busy watch list season for Dye, who has also been recognized for the Dick Butkus Award, Chuck Bednarik Award and the Lott IMPACT Trophy. Scott was also named to the Outland Trophy Watch List on Tuesday.

One of just two returning FBS players to lead his team in tackles each of the last three seasons, Dye enters his senior campaign 121 tackles shy of becoming Oregon’s all-time leader. He ranks third among current FBS players with 313 tackles, while adding 34.5 stops for loss, 12.5 sacks and three interceptions.

Dye returned for his senior season after becoming the first Oregon player with 100 tackles in back-to-back seasons since Michael Clay (2011-12) and the 15th player in program history to reach 300 career tackles. A two-time Pac-12 All-Conference choice, he ranked seventh in the Pac-12 with a career-high 115 tackles in 2018.

Scott has had a big hand in Dye’s 100-tackle performances each of the last two seasons by commanding double teams in the middle of the Oregon defensive line. Scott is coming off a Pac-12 All-Conference second team season in which he finished as a top 10 defensive lineman in the conference against the run, according to PFF. He has made 24 consecutive starts while his 586 snaps in 2018 ranked seventh amongst Pac-12 defensive linemen.
