Former Portland Timbers coach Caleb Porter is going to be back in Major League Soccer again, this time with Portland’s rival to the south.
The Athletic was the first to report on Tuesday that the LA Galaxy are preparing to hire Porter to be their next head coach. Porter would replace Sigi Schmid, who mutually agreed to part ways with the team back in September.
The Galaxy will make the Porter hire in conjunction with their re-signing of international superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic as its designated player, per the report.
The 43-year-old Porter did not coach this past MLS season after he mutually agreed to part ways with the Timbers following the 2017 season. Porter coached the Timbers since their inaugural season in MLS in 2013, and guided the club to its only MLS Cup title in 2015.
He was replaced by Giovanni Savarese, who led the Timbers to their second-ever Western Conference Championship, and a runner-up finish in MLS Cup to Atlanta United last Saturday.
