Center fielder Jake Fraley made his major league debut today against the team that originally drafted him out of LSU. He showed some flashes early, getting robbed of an RBI double in the top of the fourth inning. He also made a great diving catch in the bottom of the 8th inning and contributed to a Mariners 9th inning rally.

Cory Gearrin opened the game on the mound for the Mariners, pitching 1.0 inning and allowing 1 earned run.

Wade LeBlanc allowed most of the damage for the Mariners, pitching 4.1 innings, 7 hits and 4 earned runs.

Tampa Bay took an early 2-0 lead in the home half of the third inning, after a Guillermo Heredia solo home run.

Seattle got on the board in the top half of the fourth inning, when Kyle Seager hit into a fielder’s choice RBI. Tim Lopes followed that up with a 2-RBI single, giving the Mariners a 3-2 lead. Seager’s 14-game hit streak unfortunately came to an end.

Kevin Kiermaier would knock in the next three runs for the Rays. Kiermaier had himself a great day, scoring a run and knocking in four RBI’s in the game.

They Rays would hold onto a 5-3 lead heading into the top half of the ninth inning.

Daniel Vogelbach gave the Mariners some life with a lead-off solo home run, cutting the lead to 5-4.

Later in the inning, Mallex Smith took the plate with runners on second and third and just one out. Jake Fraley was the runner on third, representing the tying run. Smith ripped a ball to deep right field, scoring both runners as he slid head first into third for a 2-RBI triple. The Mariners took a 6-5 lead heading into the home half of the 9th. Three outs away from a three-game sweep of the Rays.

Unfortunately, the Rays bats would not cool off. Kevin Kiermaier got the rally started with a solo home run to tie the game at 6-6. Back-to-back hits and an intentional walk would load the bases with no outs. Seattle’s Matt Magill threw a wild pitch, scoring the winning run for third.

Rays win 7-6.
