It’s a shame they couldn’t stay together.  But maybe it was destined to fail from the outset.

The marriage between head coach Mario Cristobal and defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt officially came to an end Thursday, as the University of Oregon issued a press release saying the two sides mutually agreed to part ways.

As our own John Canzano writes, the relationship was over almost before it began.

The University says a national search for a defensive coordinator is underway, though it is still widely believed that safeties coach and co-defensive coordinator Keith Heyward is the favorite to land the job.

As we celebrate Valentine’s Day, or revel in the autonomy of singleness, let’s all pour out a can of Pepsi for the Leavitt-Cristobal split.
