Diego Valeri’s Early Goal Enough For a Timbers 1-0 Win Over Nashville SC

Despite some sloppy play, the Timbers were able to get their first win of the season over Nashville SC, 1-0. Portland got on the board early with yet another incredible volley goal from El Maestro.

The second half was dominated by Nashville as they racked up 60 percent of the possession and had a total of 13 shots, 4 of those being on goal. Nashville also racked up 9 corner kicks compared to none for the Timbers. However, Portland goalie Steve Clark was fantastic all night long, holding Nashville scoreless.

Portland still has a lot to work on offensively, as there were plenty of times they were unable to hold onto possession and had countless sloppy giveaways. Portland had no shots on goal for the last 70 minutes of the game, and had just 3 shots total. That has to be improved on if the Timbers want to accomplishment their goals this season.

Up next, Portland travels to Boston to take on New England Revolution next Sunday afternoon.
