Adley Rutschman named semifinalist for Buster Posey Award for nation’s best catcher

Wichita, KANSAS – Oregon State junior Adley Rutschman has been named a semifinalist Friday for the Buster Posey Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top catcher.

The honor is the third in as many days for Rutschman, who was named a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist on Wednesday, and a Dick Howser Trophy semifinalist on Thursday.

Offensively, Rutschman has been stellar, posting a .428 batting average, .581 on-base percentage and .783 slugging percentage. He has been just as good defensively, posting a .994 fielding percentage. He has thrown out 10-of-18 (.555) of runners attempting to steal. Only one runner has successfully stolen a base against Rutschman since March 23, and he has thrown seven since.

Finalists for the honor will be announced June 3, with the winner unveiled at the 22nd Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 27.
